Does Your Chest Look Older Than Your Face?

A lot of time and energy is spent on preserving the health and beauty of the skin on your face, because that is the area that immediately stares back at you when you look in the mirror. However, the skin on the backs of your hands, neck, and upper chest are exposed to the same daily barrage of environmental assaults that your face is– but without the protection and pampering your face receives.

The end result? A strange skin disconnect. Your face looks great; supple, healthy, vibrant, and then there’s the neck and decolletage, covered in sun spots, fine lines and wrinkles.

At a certain point, the damage accumulated on these unprotected areas catch up with you… suddently the sun spots don’t fade with your tan, and the wrinkles don’t go away after a long drink of water.

So… what now?

A quick, helpful treatment that can be done in your own shower is as simple as exfoliating. However, the grainy, abrasive scrubs that can be used on the face should not be used on your neck, chest, and hands. (The chest, neck and hands don’t have the same oil glands as the face, which naturally repair skin.) Look for “chemical exfoliators”, such as glycolic, salicylic, or lactic acid products, which will help increase the rate at which your skin is shedding  itself, thereby assisting with the removal of fine lines and wrinkles, and some sun damage.

Need something with more of an impact?

Years worth of cumulative damage, combined with the aging process, can make skin issues that are resistant to even the most potent of beautifying creams and lotions. Laser treatments on the other hand, can instantaneously rectify decades worth of damage. (Don’t just take our word for it, check out the proof below.)

Fraxel treatments are wonderful for any textural issues to the skin, such as skin that has become rough, leathery, or coarse with the passage of skin.  Fraxel uses tiny beams of light to carefully injure the skin in a way that forces the body to create healthy, new skin, to replace the areas that are damaged.

Broad-band light (BBL) treatments are a form of photorejuvenation that is used solely for the purpose of getting rid of discoloration. The pigmentation of your unwanted freckles and sun-spots absorbs the light of the laser, and once treated the spots will slowly begin to slough themselves off. The changes occur in the course of a week or two, and are always dramatic.

Although the skin on your hand, neck, and chest is radically different than the skin on your face, it all still plays a part in the overall image of your health and youth. Regardless of past skin oversights, there are multiple options for correcting any damage that has previously occured.

In the meantime, when you are beautifying your face in the morning, just take a couple of seconds to spread a little of your facial sunscreen onto your chest, neck, and hands. These brief moments can save decades from your appearance*, and keep all of your skin looking uniform in health and beauty.

*Not to mention the health benefits wearing sunscreen daily will provide by furthering your protection against skin cancer.
