How Dysport delivers
Dysport, like Botox, is a neurotoxin formula that interacts with your muscles in order to stop their movement, allowing your skin to lay smooth.
This mode of operation means it’s essential you only visit highly trained and qualified injectors for Dysport, because we’re able to target the exact right places to smooth your wrinkles without compromising your ability to express.

Getting the most of your Dysport
Following our pre-care and post-care advice helps ensure successful results from your neurotoxin injection.
-
Tell us if you have previously had to endure facial cold sores or herpes break-outs. We can prescribe medication to minimize the chances and duration of a possible break-out.
-
If you have microbladed eyebrows, please call your brow provider to see what they recommend for Botox/Dysport injections with your eyebrow treatment.
-
Please tell us when scheduling if you know you bruise easily, and we can make suggestions for products to take beforehand to reduce the risk of bruising. For example, eating fresh pineapple a week prior to your appointment can help reduce the likelihood of bruising.
-
Try to eat a small snack before your appointment. Having food in your stomach during a Botox or Dysport injection will help prevent you from feeling light-headed or faintish.
-
Consuming blood thinners for 5 days before your treatment. The most likely products patients would take include aspirin, St. John’s wort, fish oil, vitamin E, and alcoholic beverages (these are all anti-coagulators and will increase the likelihood of bruising and bleeding at the injection site).
-
Scheduling your treatment within 3 weeks of any big event. Any time your skin breaks, there is a chance of bruising or swelling. Make sure to give your body plenty of healing time before a big event in case this occurs.
-
Undergoing any cosmetic injections if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
-
Coming to the appointment with any facial products applied. Some of the things you want to avoid before Botox or other injections are makeup, moisturizer, and sunscreen (though if you have to come in with these on, we will wash your face).
-
Use cold compresses like ice packs that help reduce bruising and swelling.
-
Remember that the immediate results you see aren’t final. It can take 14 days for Botox or Dysport to fully kick in.
-
Try to avoid touching the treated area for the first 6 hours following treatment.
-
Limit the levels of heat your skin experiences within 24 hours of your injections. This includes sun exposure and things like heat lamps or tanning beds.
-
Make sure to stay hydrated and drink lots of water, as this will help everything work to its full capacity.
-
Feel free to make a lot of exaggerated facial expressions immediately after your Botox or Dysport treatment to ensure the product has integrated into your muscle.
-
Remember to ask about follow-up appointments!
-
Contact us if you’re experiencing any severe side effects after your appointment. Fevers or chills, discolorations around areas or areas warm to the touch, and severe pains are all issues that require immediate attention.
-
Applying a lot of pressure when using a compress against your skin.
-
Lying down for at least 4 hours after a Botox / Dysport treatment.
-
Engaging in aerobic activities for 24 hours after injection treatments. Although extremely rare, you do not want any product to migrate from its injection site.
-
Sleeping flat on your face (if you can help it) for 3 to 4 days after your treatment.
-
Touching or massaging the facial area for about 6 hours after the procedure.
-
Wearing glasses or hats that may press against a treatment site for 6 hours afterward.
-
Scheduling a dental treatment until 2 weeks after your procedure.

Dysport FAQs
Both Dysport and Botox block muscle contractions to smooth the appearance of dynamic wrinkles. Developers of Botox and Dysport designed each formula to suit specific areas and needs. While Botox was approved by the FDA for treating forehead lines, crow’s feet, and glabellar lines, Dysport’s only “on-label” use is to treat glabellar lines. Dysport is a more diluted version of the botulinum toxin so it spreads more quickly than Botox, which leads to patients noticing results more quickly.
Generally, Dysport is considered the #1 competitor to Botox and works quite similarly, with only a few distinctions:
- Dysport is reported to have a quicker onset than Botox—two to three days versus up to 14 days.
- Dysport is reported to have a longer duration.
- Dysport provides a more expressive-looking result. While it still erases unwanted lines and wrinkles, Dysport results are more natural and relaxed looking, as opposed to the perfectly smooth, frozen result that Botox can achieve. Either look is purely up to your preference.
Yes, Dysport is different from filler! Using the same modalities as Botox, Dysport interacts with nerve receptors to stop certain muscle movements, stopping the formation of dynamic wrinkles. Filler is used to plump areas with lost volume or improve facial balance.
Yes, our younger clients love the preventative powers of neuromodulators like Dysport in Philadelphia. By taking control of those wrinkle-causing muscle motions early, you never have to worry about the wrinkles forming in the first place!
Yes! Dysport lip injections and other treatments are currently being used in 57 countries for their skin-enhancing and wrinkle-erasing abilities. In the United States alone, more than 2,400 patients were studied for safety evaluations, and today over 350,000 men and women have been treated with Dysport.
You should not be treated with Dysport injections more frequently than every 90 days.
If you’ve ever received other facial injections, you won’t notice a difference between them and injections of Dysport in Philadelphia. Never had cosmetic injections before? Then there’s nothing to worry about! Here’s what you can expect:
- Treatment overview/consult: When you first arrive, you will have a conversation with your treatment provider about your goals and desired results for the Dysport lip injection or other treatment options.
- Treatment: Although treatment times may vary, the procedure itself generally takes 10 to 20 minutes. During this time, you would receive multiple tiny injections at each of the points needed to thoroughly relax the facial muscles.
- Immediately after treatment: You are good to enjoy Philadelphia, Pennsylvania again! Because our Dysport facial injections are made with an extremely fine needle, the majority of people do not show any immediate signs of injection (no bleeding, bruising, etc.) You may have little red areas around each injection site, but these usually dissipate in less than 30-minutes after treatment.
- Dysport results: You should notice the maximum effect of your treatment by three days afterward. If you are still experiencing unwanted movement after a week, no problem! Pop back in the office for a quick touch-up.
Once the desired results have been attained, your rejuvenated look should last at least 90-days following treatment.
