Bringing You Results
What does filler do?
Most dermal fillers, including those used at About Face Aesthetics like the Restylane and Juvederm families, or the RHA Collection, are formulated with hyaluronic acid. HA is a naturally occurring ingredient that holds moisture and hydrates your skin from the inside, while also providing a subtle plumping effect to your features when artfully and carefully injected by experienced providers.
Dermal-filler can be used to enhance your cheekbones, define your jawline, bring symmetry and volume to your lips, and so much more.

Comfort Enhancements
Ease your injection anxiety
Topical Numbing
Topical numbing creams provide effective pain relief for moderately uncomfortable skin treatments.
Pronox
Pronox is a 50/50 mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen. Often called “laughing gas,” it relieves anxiety and pain.
Lidocaine Injection
For a deeper level of numbing, we can utilize lidocaine injections.
Preparing and caring for your filler injections
Following our pre-care and post-care advice helps ensure successful results from your filler injection.
-
If you are treating around your mouth, please tell us if you have previously had cold sores or herpes break-outs. We can prescribe medication ahead of time or at time of treatment to minimize the chances and duration of a possible break-out.
-
Please tell us when scheduling if you know you bruise easily so we can make suggestions for products to take beforehand to reduce the risk of bruising. (For example, eating fresh pineapple a week prior to your appointment can help reduce the likelihood of bruising.)
-
Try to eat a small snack before your appointment. Having food in your stomach during a filler injection will help prevent you from feeling light-headed or faintish.
-
Consuming blood thinners for 5 days before your treatment. The most likely products patients would take include aspirin, St. John’s wort, fish oil, vitamin E, and alcoholic beverages (these are all anti-coagulators and will increase the likelihood of bruising and bleeding at the injection site).
-
Scheduling your treatment within 4-weeks of any big event. We want to make sure that you have plenty of time for any possible bruising and/or swelling to dissipate, and that the results are as intended.
-
Please let us know if you are currently pregnant or breastfeeding, as this is a contraindicator for dermal-filler injections.
-
Use cold compresses like ice packs that help reduce bruising and swelling.
-
Limit the levels of heat your skin experiences within 24 hours of your injections. This includes sun exposure and things like heat lamps or tanning beds.
-
Consider adding an extra pillow under your head when going to sleep, as added elevation can help reduce swelling.
-
Make sure to stay hydrated and drink lots of water, as this will help everything work to its full capacity.
-
Remember to ask about follow-up appointments!
-
Contact us if you’re experiencing any severe side effects after your appointment. Fevers or chills, discolorations around areas or areas warm to the touch, and severe pains are all issues that require immediate attention.
-
Applying a lot of pressure when using a compress against your skin.
-
Sleeping flat on your face (if you can help it) for 3 to 4 days after your treatment.
-
If you treated anywhere near your mouth, please give yourself a 2-week buffer between your filler treatment and dentist visit.

Dermal Filler FAQs
While they’re both extremely popular injectables, filler and neurotoxins (like Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau and Daxxify) work very differently. Filler is made of hyaluronic acid and, as the name implies, provides a “filling” effect that create the desired facial contours and facial balancing. Neurotoxins are used to prevent muscles from pulling in unwanted ways, such as a furrowed “angry” brow, platysmal bands that pop out when you are talking in an animated way, or lines across your brow. Dermal-fillers and neurotoxins are often used in conjuction to manipulate the face into looking a certain way, but they are completely different products from each other.
To us, NOPE!!!!! There’s no such thing as “better than” when it comes to things like fillers, Botox, or other aesthetic treatments. It’s all about finding the treatment modalities that are safe and effective for your aesethetic goals. A lot of our patients love the way combining fillers and Botox/Dysport make them feel about their appearance, but plenty of patients are also happy with one or the other, or none at all. Every person will have a unique treatment-recipe that makes them feel best.
Yes, there are lots of different types of filler in Philadelphia. Each one is formulated in a slightly different way, for example some products are designed for lips, some are made for mimicking the appearance of bone, and some are made for adding soft volume enhancement. These nuances are things that your expert injectors at About Face Aesthetics will review with you based on which options will work the best for your goals and anatomy.
