The Science Behind CO2 Laser Facials

Using lasers to treat skin concerns and conditions might sound like something out of science fiction—but the results speak for themselves.

Our CoolPeel CO2 laser treatment sends strong infrared light to the outside layers of the skin. This removes the outer layer of skin known as the epidermis and then heats up the dermis layer underneath.

CO2 treatments work by delivering fractionated, yet focused beams of carbon dioxide light into the skin. This creates controlled, microscopic injuries in the skin which activates the body’s natural healing process. During this healing process, new skin is created in addition to the production of new collagen growth and elastin, all of which help to firm, smooth, and improve the skin over time.

The CoolPeel is distinct from other versions of CO2 treatments because the microchannel-wounds being created are extremely small, which allows for faster healing and recovery. (CoolPeel CO2 treatments are nothing like CO2 treatments from 5+ years ago.)
