Although both treatments work to force muscles into showing more “pink” of the lip, the primary difference between a Laser “Lip Flip” and traditional lip flip injection treatment lies in the methodof action, and longevity of results. Lip flip injections typically use neurotoxins like Botox to relax the muscles around the lips, resulting in a subtle outward flip of the upper lip. In comparison, the “Laser Lip Flip” uses thermal energy to stimulate collagen and tighten the skin, providing a more natural and gradual enhancement. Utilizing this laser energy on the upper-lip can acheive the same effect because multiple sessions can reduce the length of the upper lip, therefore giving a slight lip flip by tightening the skin above the mucosal lip.

Frequently Asked Questions About Lip Lasers in Philadelphia
Men and women of all skin types and colors can be treated safely and effectively with About Face Aesthetic’s lip laser in Philadelphia!
The “Laser Lip Flip” is ideal for people who want subtle lip enhancements without the use of needles or fillers. It is particularly beneficial for anyone who wants a natural-looking enhancement to boost lip volume
This is a super safe and satisfying treatment for younger patients who really do not need lip fillers but want to enhance their natural shape and lip volume, and t’s also great for more mature patients who want to reduce vertical lines and smooth and polish their lips.
What to Do
- Please note: If you have “lip-blushing” tinting, or any kind of lip tattoo, this treatment is not safe for you and may cause undesired results!
- Please make sure to tell us if you currently have lip filler, or are considering lip filler injections in the near future. (You can have these treatments together to maximize lip opportunity, but the timing of treatments needs to be considered.)
- If you are taking an antibiotic, you may want to wait 2 weeks before having a laser treatment. (Certain medications can make you more susceptible to burning.)
- Please tell us if you’ve used Accutane in the past 6 months! Although it’s a wonderful medication, it does not work well with any kind of laser treatment. It is advised to wait at least 6 months between the completion of your Accutane cycle and laser treatments.
- Please make sure to tell your About Face provider about any additional medication or prescription strength products you may have used in the near past. Items such as retinols and antibiotics can affect your skin’s response to laser treatments, and compromise your safety and results. On average, antibiotics should be finished a week before a service.
- Please make sure to tell your About Face provider if you’ve ever had a cold sore. (We can prescribe medicine ahead of time to reduce chance of breakout.)
What to Avoid
- Do NOT get sunburned. Laser treatments in Philadelphia are harnessing heat and light energy, it is not safe to have any laser or light treatment on skin that is already burned.
- Do not get IPL treatments if you are pregnant. There are no studies on this, but it’s not worth possibly harming your baby to undergo an IPL treatment. If you are pregnant? Congrats! We’ll be here when the baby is born.
- Do NOT use retinols on any area you’d like treated. Retinols sensitize your skin, and make you more susceptible to burns.
Nope! Patients report that the treatment is completely comfortable.
Lip Laser treatments are relatively quick, and if only your lips are being treated you could be in and out within 20-minutes. (Including before and after pictures, consent forms, etc.!)
Immediately after your treatment of Lip Laser Plumping in Philadelphia, you should be fine to go back to your regularly planned schedule. Most people will not experience any downtime, but potential side effects can include temporary redness, swelling, and mild discomfort. These effects are typically short-lived and resolve within a few days.
Your desired results and treatment response will determine how many lip laser plumping treatments you will need. It could be one or two sessions for a younger patient with no lip-lines nor volume loss, or three to five sessions to revamp a thinner lip.
Once you acheive your desired results, we recommend maintenance treatments every four to six months to maintain the plumper, more defined look.
