Bringing You Results
The science behind Sculptra
Sculptra is an injectable filler that works a little different from the traditional fillers you’re used to. Designed with poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a substance that works with your body to stimulate collagen production, Sculptra works over time instead of delivering an immediate plumpness.
After injection, it promotes the growth of collagen, a common protein that provides support and structure to skin and other body components. It’s well worth the wait, though, because it delivers truly natural results to soften deep lines and folds in your skin and make you look younger.

Getting the most out of your Sculptra injections
Following our pre-care and post-care advice helps ensure successful results from your Sculptra injection.
-
Tell us if you have previously had to endure facial cold sores or herpes break-outs. We can prescribe medication to minimize the chances and duration of a possible break-out.
-
Please tell us when scheduling if you know you bruise easily, and we can make suggestions for products to take beforehand to reduce the risk of bruising. For example, eating fresh pineapple a week prior to your appointment can help reduce the likelihood of bruising.
-
Try to eat a small snack before your appointment. Having food in your stomach during a Sculptra injection will help prevent you from feeling light-headed or faintish.
-
Consuming blood thinners for 5 days before your treatment. The most likely products patients would take include aspirin, St. John’s wort, fish oil, vitamin E, and alcoholic beverages (these are all anti-coagulators and will increase the likelihood of bruising and bleeding at the injection site).
-
Scheduling your treatment within 3 weeks of any big event. Any time your skin breaks, there is a chance of bruising or swelling. Make sure to give your body plenty of healing time before a big event in case this occurs.
-
Undergoing any cosmetic injections if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
-
Coming to the appointment with any facial products applied. Some of the things you want to avoid before Sculptra injections are makeup, moisturizer, and sunscreen (though if you have to come in with these on, we will wash your face).
-
Use cold compresses like ice packs that help reduce bruising and swelling.
-
5-5-5 Rule—massage the treated area(s) for 5 minutes, 5 times per day, for 5 days after treatment. Massage should use medium pressure rubbing all along the injection sites (even if they're a bit sore it's important to do this).
-
Limit the levels of heat your skin experiences within 24 hours of your injections. This includes sun exposure and things like heat lamps or tanning beds.
-
Consider adding an extra pillow under your head when going to sleep, as added elevation can help reduce swelling.
-
Make sure to stay hydrated and drink lots of water, as this will help everything work to its full capacity.
-
Remember to ask about follow-up appointments!
-
Contact us if you’re experiencing any severe side effects after your appointment. Fevers or chills, discolorations around areas or areas warm to the touch, and severe pains are all issues that require immediate attention.
-
Remember your results won't be immediate and generally appear about 2 weeks after your second treatment, then continue to improve over the following months.
-
Applying a lot of pressure when using a compress against your skin.
-
Engaging in aerobic activities for 24 hours after injection treatments. Although extremely rare, you do not want any product to migrate from its injection site.
-
Sleeping flat on your face (if you can help it) for 3 to 4 days after your treatment.
-
Scheduling a dental treatment until 2 weeks after your procedure.

Sculptra FAQs
Everyone’s skin has different needs, but we typically find that patients get the best results after a series of 3 treatments of Sculptra in Philadelphia.
Given its ability to stimulate collagen growth, those familiar with the aging process will know precisely what Sculptra aesthetic injections are intended for—reducing and eliminating wrinkles and lines in the skin caused by aging. When a person grows older, the collagen levels in their skin decrease, resulting in wrinkles and other signs of age. Sculptra targets the problem directly by encouraging the creation of new collagen so that designated areas of the body can appear thicker and smoother.
Sculptra injections can be used all over the body to restore volume and youthful looks in targeted areas. It’s commonly utilized in the face to reduce folds and wrinkles, but has also found use in the neck, arms, thighs, and other regions.
When it comes to whether Sculptra is better than traditional filler, there’s no objective answer. Sculptra may be the better option for you, but traditional filler could be the best option for someone else. That’s why we always work hard to offer our clients a multitude of choices for their aesthetic needs.
Many of our patients who get Sculptra for facial fullness are 40+ years old. However, we do often use it for younger patients who want to give their collagen a boost before the impacts of aging appear. Patients who receive the Sculptra butt lift are as young as 18!
Compared to other dermal fillers available, there are many reasons why you should consider having Sculptra injections from About Face Aesthetics in Philadelphia. For one, pretesting and extensive preparation aren’t necessary for treatments. The procedure is also relatively quick and simple—taking between a few minutes to an hour at most—and has comparatively little downtime.
You’ll start to see improvements around four to six months after the injection, and because the collagen growth is not instant, it won’t appear as if you had a procedure. Additionally, Sculptra Aesthetic has been shown to last up to two to three years after a treatment, meaning the results will stay with you longer than other methods. Also, when performed by a professional, it’s a safe procedure that has been approved by the FDA.
