BananaBella is Philadelphia’s cute-sounding moniker for the injection of Kybella into the banana-roll, which is non-technical name for the banana-shaped pocket of fat experienced under the bum.
What is BananaBella?
BananaBella is the injection of Kybella into the “Banana Roll” (roll of fat) beneath the bum. Kybella is made of a specialized acid that permanently dissolves the targeted fat-cells, and the destroyed fat is then eliminated through the lymphatic system over the following weeks. The active molecule found in Kybella, deoxycholic acid, is injected under the skin directly into the fatty tissue. Kybella then works to destroy fat cells in such a way that they cannot be re-created in the future. (However, please note that with future weight gain it is possible for the remaining fat cells to grow and reinhabit the area.) Once the fat-cells are destroyed and eliminated, your body begins to create collagen which gives the treated-area a tighter, smoother appearance.
How much does BananaBella cost?
BananaBella treatment cost may vary from patient to patient depending on how much product is needed to attain the best results. However on average a BananaBella session is $1,100 per treatment, and this includes 2x vials of Kybella.
Most patients need 2-3 treatments, 6-12 weeks apart.
Are BananaBella results permanent?
Your body only creates fat-cells at two-stages in life; the first is when you are developing in the uterus and the second is during puberty.
Kybella permanently destroys the existing, targeted subcutaneous fat cells. It works well for those maintaining a healthy lifestyle before and after treatment. Diet, exercise, and metabolism contribute to overall outcome and maintenance.
What if I gain weight after Kybella?
Everyone’s body uniformly accumulates fat; therefore remaining fat cells (those not destroyed) can enlarge based on metabolic and dietary changes.
However, your body will not create new fat cells. If you gains weight after being treated with Kybella, when you shed the new weight you will regain their Kybella results.
Who is a good candidate for BananaBella treatments?
The ideal BananaBella patients have mild to moderate amounts of fat deposited in the respective treatment area.
Each unique patient will receive a personalized treatment plan. One of the added benefits with Kybella is the ability to customize each treatment session.
What are the potential side-effects or downtime with BananaBella?
It is normal to experience some tenderness and soreness in the treatment area following your injections.
Side-effects can include temporary numbness, swelling, and bruising of the treatment area. Any swelling / soreness can last for a few weeks, but will be the most noticeable in the first 3-4 days after treatment. If you are prone to bruising, you may benefit from a topical Arnica cream.
These side-effects contribute to social down-time during the Summer, however the treatment area can easily be covered by clothing if needed. Aside from any minor discomfort you may experience, there are no restrictions to your mobility or ability to perform daily activities.
For the first 24 to 48 hours after treatment, please refrain from aggressive exercise, alcohol consumption, and salty foods.
Icing the area can also help speed the healing process.

(Kybella can be injected in a variety of areas apart from the submental region, i.e. arms, abdomen, and outer thighs to improve the overall contour.)
