Hey all! Happy Dog Days of Summer!
As you may or may not already have noticed, in addition to skin and makeup ? I have a little bit of an obsession with hair. (At least, my hair.)
Manely (get it?), I always want it longer, thicker, and shinier than it ever is.
My product pick for July is a multi-beneficial solution to multiple summer-problems; Sun Bum 3-in-1 leave-in conditioner is an SPF for your hair (!!!!) that helps keep your hair (and color!) safe and healthy, while also allowing the hair to feel softer, fight frizz, and prevent split-ends. Plus, it smells like summer-in-a-bottle. (In the best way possible.)
At first I was a little nervous that this wouldn’t absorb into my fine hair, or that it might make my hair look oily (like most other leave-ins do to me). I was happily surprised to discover that my hair soaked this right up, and I apply A LOT of it.
I always apply it to my hair when I get out of the shower, and then I?ll spray my braid or pony-tail again right before I go out into the sun. If I’m outdoors for awhile, I usually reapply a few times (you’re supposed to reapply sunscreen to your body at least every 2-hours, so I think my hair deserves the same TLC.) and I might follow-up with some “Shine On” oil on my ends. (More on this below!) Despite the intense sun we’ve been dealing with this summer, and regardless of the abuse I regularly put my hair through — I’m happy to say that my hair continues to look shiny and healthy.
There is literally nothing to dislike in this product, and the price is surprisingly economical.
Trust. The. Bum.
What?
Sun Bum?s ?3-in-1 Leave In? is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE hair product to date. It adds the perfect amount of moisture to my hair, leaves my locks looking shiny and silky, and helps keep my hair safe from the frying and drying effects of sun, chlorine and salt-water.
This leave-in product will protect, detangle, and condition your hair while enhancing and restoring its natural body.
It also helps controls frizz, prevents split ends, slows-down color fading, and will leave your hair silky-smooth and shiny.
It is by far my most “borrowed” item when I’m at the shore.
Why?
Of course I love a brand that says, “protect your lazy ass and grow old with us.” I could not have said it better myself! We all know how I feel about sun protection for SKIN, but what about what the sun does to your hair?
Did you know that prolonged sun-exposure can not only cause your hair color to fade — it can also dry out and fry your hair? Dry-hair is brittle-hair, and brittle-hair breaks very easily. That is exactly what I am trying to avoid as I attempt to grow-out my ‘do, and because of the hair-TLC this product provides me it’s safe to say that I’m definitely a little bit in love with it. (No offense, Jimmy.)
How?
The combination of coconut oil, banana, sunflower seed oil and quinoa provides UV-protection for my hair, and prevents my hair from becoming dull, brittle, frizzy and discolored.
Where?
Apply on your hair, a few spritz of the bottle go along way. You can use it on dry and damp hair; either spay onto your hair when you get out of the shower, or you can spray a few pumps into your hands and then run your fingers through your hair to apply when your hair is dry. Although this product is wonderful, it does NOT provide sun protection for your scalp, so if you’re going to be outdoors for awhile make sure to either wear a hat (like me!) or apply a sunscreen to your scalp. (A sun-burned scalp is the worst, especially when the peeling starts…)

Blonde Bonus
I have also been using SunBum’s Shine On Hair Oil Treatment, which adds major gloss to my hair. This is very intense product however, so a little goes a long way.
While “Shine On” contains many of the same oils as above (plus a few others), it also contains a decent amount of silicones. A little silicone here and there is fine, but be careful overloading your hair with this because the build-up can be hard to ultimately wash-out, and too much can make your hair look a little too slick. In moderation however, this oil is fantastic.
How to keep blonde-hair from fading in the sun?
The goal is to make your hair shine. Shiny hair will help reflect away the sun, versus dry, matte hair that will absorb the sun quicker, fading your color faster. If your hair has some shine to it, the sun will bounce off it and not get absorbed into your strands.
I always put the “3-in-1” leave-in conditioner and the “Shine On” oil on before hitting the sun. The products contain shine-enhancing ingredients like Argan Oil, Coconut Oil, Sweet Almond Oil and Sunflower Seed Oil.
Per SunBum’s website: “Think about it. Sunflowers are bright yellow and stay in the sun all day, every day and never fade? it?s the oil. You?re welcome.”
How to prevent blonde-hair from turning green from swimming pools?
A great trick is to rinse your hair with tomato juice. (V8 is fine!) Leave it in your hair for a couple minutes, and then rinse out. The red should help neutralize any unwanted green tints.
