Consider this short list your Holy Grail of sunscreen best practices. It might look easy (and it is!), but good sun protection takes a lot of will-power and dedication. (Reapplication should happen every 2-hours, everytime!)
Just remember that your future self will thank you for the precautions you take now.
SUNSCREEN TO-DO CHECKLIST:
-
Apply sunscreen every morning to any sun-exposed area of the body.
-
If in direct sun, reapply your sunscreen every 2 hours.
-
Apply sunscreen a minimum of 20-minutes prior to sun exposure. (Zinc oxide and titanium dioxide work immediately, other sunscreen ingredients need 20-minutes to fully activate.)
-
Try to stay out of sun between 10 am and 2 pm when the sun is at its strongest.
-
It takes 1 ounce of sunscreen (a shot-glass) to cover the average sized body in a swimsuit. Don’t skimp on sunscreen!
-
There is no such thing as waterproof sunscreen, only water-resistant sunscreen. Check your sunscreen for tested water resistance and reapply after being in the water even if the sunscreen is water-resistant.
