About Face has been performing Thermage skin-tightening treatments in Philadelphia for almost 20-years, and we are thrilled with the addition of the newest generation, the Thermage FLX. After all this time, it’s only natural for you to be thinking, “Your Thermage treatments have always been great, what is better about the FLX?”
Well, let us tell you!
What is Thermage® FLX?
Thermage radiofrequency (RF) treatments provide a non-invasive way to clinically smooth, tighten, and contour the skin for an overall younger-looking appearance. Thermage FLX treatment delivers noticeable results with little to no downtime—on all skin types, for the face, body and eyes, all in a single procedure. Since there is no surgery involved, you can return to normal activities immediately following the procedure!
How long has the Thermage® technology been available?
The first Thermage device was sold in the United States over twenty years ago, in 2002! Since then, over three million treatments have been performed! About Face Aesthetics is an authorized provider and has been treating patients in Philadelphia with Thermage® since 2007.
How do Thermage FLX treatments work?
A handpiece with a smooth, flat tip delivers radiofrequency (RF) energy to the desired treatment area; your face, tummy, eyes, etc., which delivers heat to the deep, collagen-rich layers of your skin. The heat helps stimulate the formation of new collagen over time, which can tighten and improve the smoothness and texture of the skin’s surface.
How long is the treatment?
Thermage FLX treatment times vary depending on the part of the body, the size, location, and condition of the treatment area. Due to a slightly larger tip than it’s predecessor, Thermage® FLX treatments are quicker than before and noticeable results can be seen in a single treatment!
What parts of the body do Thermage® FLX System procedures treat?
Thermage® FLX treatments in Philadelphia can treat skin on most body parts, including the face, eyes, tummy, hands, thighs, and buttocks. Thermage® FLX System can also temporarily reduce the appearance of cellulite.
What kind of results can I expect?
Immediately after treatment your skin may appear smoother and more youthful as the underlying collagen is regenerated.
Depending on what you have treated:
- Your eyes can look more awakened with reduced hooding.
- Wrinkled, crepey, or sagging skin can appear smoother on the body.
- You can see temporary improvement in the appearance of your cellulite with reduced dimpling.
(Results vary depending on age and skin condition.)

When do the results appear, and how long do they last?
Visible results may be immediate, and they may improve over time throughout your body’s natural collagen rebuilding process. For most patients, results can be seen as soon as the treatment is complete, with continued improvement over three to six months following a single treatment session. The longevity of your Thermage FLX results depends on your skin condition, sun exposure, and aging process.
How many treatments will I need?
Unlike many laser procedures requiring multiple sessions, Thermage FLX delivers results in a single session for most patients.
What will I look like immediately after the procedure? Can I go right back to work?
There’s no special care needed after treatment, and most patients return to their regular activities immediately following treatment — there is little to no downtime with Thermage® FLX!
What does the treatment feel like?
Each time the treatment device touches your skin, you’ll feel a brief cooling sensation, followed by a deep but brief heating sensation, followed by another cooling sensation. The heating sensation is a sign that the deep layers of your skin are reaching effective temperatures for smoothing wrinkles, while the cooling sensation protects the surface of your skin. Throughout the procedure, your provider will ask for feedback on the level of heat sensation to help balance your comfort with maximum results.
Who performs the procedure?
About Face Aesthetics is an authorized Thermage provider, which means our team has been extensively trained on Thermage® FLX in addition to all of the education and experience with the previous Thermage devices. In our office, the procedure is performed by our team of medical estheticians (our newest esthi has been with us for 10-years!)
How is Thermage® FLX System technology different from other procedures that treat wrinkles?
Thermage® FLX System can smooth your skin, but realistically it won’t provide the dramatic results of a surgical facelift. If you would like modest smoothing of your skin and collagen rebuilding without surgery, then Thermage® FLX System may be right for you. We would be happy to discuss the different approaches with you during your consultation.
How do Thermage® FLX System results compare with those of other treatments?
Some people want the dramatic results of surgery. Others want the more subtle, gradual results of a non-invasive treatment with little to no downtime, and love the idea of being able to “bank” their own collagen. This is where Thermage® FLX succeeds, delivering improved skin appearance and overall texture.
Can I get a Thermage® FLX System procedure if I’ve already had other procedures?
For best results, you will need to discuss your past procedures and your current expectations with your provider during your consultation, but most likely the answer is yes. 🙂
Are there risks?
Thermage® FLX System procedures are offered by over 2500 physicians in more than 80 countries and have a demonstrated safety profile. Of course, as with any procedure, there’s always some risk which we will discuss with you during your consultation. Side effects are generally mild and may include redness, swelling, and rare instances of surface irregularities.
How much does the Thermage® FLX treatment in Philadelphia cost?
The cost depends on the area you’re having treated. We encourage you to come in for a consultation, at which point we can give you a more precise idea of cost.
